I've played through it on the hardest difficulty and would say it's good but not as good as dusk or amid evil (even though those games are more like quake) It's fine but please don't let people blindly over praise it. They seem to be focused on improving UX, adding weapons, advanced movement, and working on campaign levels at the moment.ĭevelopers are very skilled and have years of experience, backed by a reliable publisher and IIRC a release window around November 2021 though I might be remembering completely wrong. Multiplayer & coop are planned, not yet implemented, but from what I can tell that will be the last item on the list to be added to the game. There's about 100 player created maps well above what you'd expect in both creativity, difficulty, and length. Map editor is comprehensive and everyone has access to the same tools, campaign levels are made entirely in the map editor. If you're big into leader boards, there's a solid 50+ hours of content there. There's public leader boards that grade you based on time, kills, secrets discovered, and difficulty. It's probably the best game I've played this year, certainly up there with Renaine and that was only a demo. There's around 10 hours of campaign levels available in the current state of the game, just playing the game on medium difficulty and not looking for secrets or anything else. Blue shit is always terrifying, and some of the fights are just pure chaos. That isn't a bad thing, game wears what it does well. They are all very Doom-y aside from the snipers. Maybe it can shake the Doom shackles off and just go nuts. I get the feeling some of the unrealised guns are gonna be absolutely bonkers. Chaingun is fine, but one of the later guns just does everything that does, but better. The shredders are amazing fun to use but the reload and lack of any accuracy isn't great. Seemed outclassed near the end of the campaign. Maybe the bullet weapons need a bit of tweaking. I think I should be using it to murder something, switch away, then switch back to reload when I have a minute. I mean everything else was delicious, but that reload is oof. that uses shotgun shells I am not so sure about. The base shotgun is tremendous, workhorse for most of the campaign. Always tended to use one on the big flying mortar things. I was puzzled at getting the grenade launcher after the rocket launcher - until I realised the grenades are for when something needs to die immediately and the rockets are better for long range clearance. Even near the end of the early access, I was using the pistol to take out some enemies at mid range. It's one of the few FPS where all the guns are good. Hell, I liked the one level that was just a large arena, a boatload of railgun ammo and a lot of dudes that needed shooting. It's not reinventing the wheel, but little touches like coming back onto yourself, or the one with the snipers. It's like a Build engine game brought bang into the 2020s technology wise. Anyone who is a fan of the old Duke Nukem and Doom games will love this. I have no idea how far away this is until final release but if you told me the version I'm playing was a patched up final I'd believe it. So off to GOG I went, to purchase my first early access game.īoy am I glad I did. Stumbled across another more recent video on YouTube and I just couldn't put it off any longer. Patch crazy me, always hoping for the optimal experience. Now I know that doesn't mean much, a lot of games in EA are reported to be fantastic and in an almost finished state, but I'm a bit weird, someone who bought the likes of Dirt 5 and Cyberpunk on day one only to stop playing after a very short while and wait for patches. Only to quickly find out it's an early access title. I caught a few videos a few months back and thought it looked right up my street.
